Alton M. Torgan "Volunteer of the Year" Award

Alton M. Torgan was one of the founding members of Crime Watch of Stratford in 1980. During his 20 years of dedicated service to the organization he spent countless hours going house to house, street to street, signing up new members for the fledgling organization. Today there are over 5000 households in Stratford signed up as Crime Watch participants. After Al passed away in 2000 the Crime Watch executive board voted to create an award dedicated to Al’s memory. The award was created to recognize a person who has dedicated themselves to further the goals of the Crime Watch organization and to promote and further educate the citizens of Stratford in Crime Prevention programs.

This year’s recipient of the 2007 Torgan Award is Lin Scheck, owner of Butterworth & Scheck Construction Company in Stratford. Lin has been a member of the Crime Watch organization for over 20 years and has held several executive board positions within the organization and has served on many committees. She currently holds the office of  1st V. President
